Festive Greetings.... and see you in 2023!

Sending all my wonderful Sarasa Sound friends much love over the holidays!

World Peace Gong, Bail

And also sharing the good news that, all being well, I will be re-commencing regular group gong bath sessions in the New Year. As you might have noticed, I’ve not run any regular group sessions for over a year now, just doing 1-2-1 and occasional private-group sessions. This is because I’ve been slowly recovering from serious hand injuries and pain. Although my hands are still somewhat disabled, they are now well enough to start to do a bit more, which is so exciting!

I will share more in early January, as details get finalised.

Much love, and all the best for a peaceful, interconnected and love-filled 2023!

Beautiful yoga and gong bath session at Tooting Bec Lido Studio

A beautiful and relaxing yoga and sound bath session a few weeks ago at Tooting Bed Lido Studio. Organised by the superb yoga teacher Anne Marie Hennessy, this was the second session we’ve done together. I can highly recommend these sessions: Anne Marie gently and clearly guides us through a series of relaxing yoga postures, then we settle into a 45 minute gong bath, and then at the end there’s plenty of time to chill and enjoy the view and the space, while drinking herbal tea and munching on Anne Marie’s delectable yet healthy and nourishing vegan nibbles.

Our next session at this beautiful venue is on Friday 9th September - it would be lovely to see you! Book here:

Yet another update about my hand and arm(!)

Hello friends!

I hope you are enjoying the unfolding Spring. I realise I haven't posted an update recently. Unfortunately my hand took a turn for the worse, and I had to have another operation two weeks ago. It's too early to tell, but I'm cautiously optimistic that I might get back to doing a few gong baths in the next few weeks, and regular gong baths not too long after that.

Watch this space!

With love, Cx

Winter solstice news

Hello, and Happy Winter Solstice!

I hope you are keeping warm, safe and cozy, wherever you are, and that you are looking forward to some kind of rest and restoration time.

I’m still in recovery from my hand operation, which has turned into a much bigger saga than I was expecting. V…e...r...y s…l…o…w…l…y , I am regaining my strength, grip and control in my right hand and arm. This means that with great sadness I am not able to offer a New Year’s Eve gong bath, such as I have for the last 5 years. However, here is the link to a Winter Solstice gong bath I recorded last year, please feel free to lie down somewhere comfortable and warm, and where you won’t be disturbed, and have a listen (ideally through headphones).:

Winter Solstice gong bath

And here’s the link to a New Year’s Day gong bath I recorded on 1st January this year:

New Year’s Day gong bath

There are many other carefully-recorded gong baths on the Sarasa Sound Youtube channel, and on Sarasa Sound Soundcloud as well.

Enjoy!!

In January I will be doing a few sessions, but to start with 1-2-1 and private small group gong baths only. I’ll hopefully be re-starting my regular group sessions a few weeks later.

Much love and have a restful festive break!

Autumn News

I hope you have had a good summer and managed to enjoy a break and a good rest.

I am unexpectedly taking a rather longer than usual summer break, and even stretching it well into the Autumn!

This is partly because I had a hand operation in late July that is taking longer than I expected to recover from. I am only now just starting to be able to write and type two-handed once again. And I’m still not able to grip firmly or carry any heavy weights, so playing gongs is some way off!

And now, rather than recuperate and get back to my gong baths ASAP, much as I would like to, I am instead preparing to step up and take action, once again, to try and get our government to stop dragging its heels and finally show some climate leadership. To get them to take urgent - and vital - action to address the climate emergency that is threatening the future of our children.

According to UNICEF’s recent report, over 1 billion children’s lives are threatened because of the course we are on, thanks to our collective lack of action on climate change. The UK has a particular responsibility to show good leadership. We are one of the world’s highest emitters per capita, historically Britain is one of the globe’s largest emitters, and the City of London is the 9th largest emitter in the world when judged by what it enables through finance and insurance (according to research from WWF and Greenpeace) . Plus we are partly responsible for countries like China’s emissions- a huge part of their emissions are because they manufacture the stuff that we in the West import and consume.

The UK is hosting COP26 in November, the most important annual global gathering trying to avert climate breakdown. Our government needs to show some real leadership now by taking real action, not just spouting yet more empty words. For example, getting down to the essential task of insulating Britains homes, which are a huge source of emissions, which everyone agrees needs to be done, and which the government has conspicuously failed to sort out, other than reluctantly and incompetently running a smallscale scheme which they quietly disbanded last year.

I will be stepping up, alongside others, to take part in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience, in the Ghandian tradition, to encourage our government to do get on with it and insulate Britain’s homes. I expect to be arrested and maybe imprisoned. Please wish me luck, and I can’t wait till I can come back and resume the gong baths. Watch this space!

Covid restrictions easing off... and summer holidays

From Monday 19th July, covid restrictions are easing off. Therefore mask-wearing will no longer be compulsory at my in-studio sessions. However, other covid-safe measures will continue to be in place: a maximum of 6 people per session, the studio and all other accessible areas will be cleaned and sanitised before and after every session, the studio space will be well-ventilated before, during and after each session, and hand sanitiser will be available at all times. Also, please continue to bring your own mat, blanket and cushion/pillow.

If you are unsure or concerned about covid-safety, if you are particularly vulnerable or just nervous about covid-transmission, then I completely understand! And please get in touch! I am happy to wear a mask if that is helpful, and happy to provide masks for other attendees and request that they wear them if they can. And any other measures that will help you feel comfortable and safe.

Phew! Of course, all this may need to change yet again as the year unfolds, and like everyone else I will be keeping an eye on new government guidelines.

And I will be taking a few weeks off in the summer to visit my village in Cornwall, so there won’t be any gong baths happening for most of August. Not sure yet when I will be starting up again - watch this space!

Hope to see you soon! And please take care of yourself, and be considerate of yourself and others at this difficult transition time when restrictions are easing and we are all at different stages of re-adjusting.

Love Cathy x

Small-group candle-lit gong baths happening again from May

While carrying on with my LIVE ONLINE gong baths, every Friday at 6pm and every Sunday at 8pm, I am also resuming IN REAL LIFE gong baths, from 16 May. While I really enjoy the live online sessions, and they are working really well, I will be lovely to be doing those real-life sessions once again!

They will be in my home studio, with a maximum of 5 people to maintain social distancing and covid-safe protocols. They will be every Sunday at 6pm.

So take your pick! Stay snug at home and listen to high-quality sounds through your headphones without travelling anywhere plus receive the recording of the session afterwards to listen to whenever and wherever you like… or come along to my studio in Clapham Common and be in the physical presence of the gongs and singing bowls.

Full info and booking here for all sessions, online and in the studio:

Either way, see you soon! Cx

Live Online gong baths now happening!

Happy New Year, and all the best for 2021, whatever it brings!

Following a really lovely and well-received New Years Eve gong bath on Zoom, I’m now going to be offering regular Live Online gong baths over the coming weeks. Please join me for these restorative and uplifting sessions!

For now they are:

- every Sunday 8pm - 9pm GMT

- every Friday 4.30pm - 5.15pm GMT

Booking is on Eventbrite. Click here to go to the Sarasa Sound Eventbrite page, where all my gong baths are listed.

The sessions are on Zoom. The Zoom link is on the Eventbrite Online Event Page for each session. You will be sent the link to that page when you book. The Zoom link itself goes live 5 minutes before the session starts.

Of course the online gong bath experience is not the same as “in real life”. Nevertheless attendees report powerful, transformative experiences from the sounds, both physical and mental. And there is evidence that people listening to gong baths at home report greater levels of relaxation - possibly owing to being in their own spaces.

As with my In Real Life gong baths, the maximum number of attendees at these sessions is 30 - for me this is very important, to keep the intimate feeling of a shared group experience. As of course this is not really about me playing gongs and singing bowls “to” you, we are together creating a space with its own unique, powerful energy and magic.

Everyone who books a session receives a link to a high-quality recording of it, available to listen to at any time and as often as you want.

Here’s the Eventbrite booking link again::

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/sarasa-sound-18779263054

Hopefully see you at one of these sessions soon!

Recording a gong bath in my home studio during lockdown

A beautiful and magical way of marking summer solstice 2020

On Midsummer evening, a few of us took the gongs and crystal singing bowls over onto Clapham Common, for our 5th annual summer solstice gong bath. I didn’t publicise the gong bath as an event, as it is still illegal to organise outside events, but nevertheless around 40 people came along on the off-chance that it would be happening, plus a few passers-by were drawn in. It was the first time we’d seen each other for months, and although we all kept our distance from each other there was a powerfully strong feeling of connection and community between us. Unlike my regular gong baths, the summer solstice occasions are not so much about creating a gong bath for the benefit of the people there. Rather they are more about creating powerful positive vibrations to send out into the universe, and those of us there in attendance are part of that creation. This year’s event was just as magical and special as previous years, with the additional joy of being part of a physical community, even for just a short time, after so long in isolation. Some beautiful pictures were taken, here are a few:

Bite-size calm: unwind, relax and recharge in 5-10 minutes, wherever you are

On Monday 1st June I’ll be launching a brand-new kind of online gong bath: Bite-size Calm. This suite of mini-gong baths is specifically for NHS and other frontline workers. It’s to listen to mid-shift, in a lunch-break or at the end of a busy shift. I’m doing these mini-gong baths in response to requests from people who enjoy my regular gong baths but need something much shorter and suitable for mid-shift: something they can listen to wherever they are, relax and recharge, and then carry on with their day.

adobe-spark-post generic.png

These mini-gong baths are free to anyone working in the NHS or other frontline essential workers. Anyone else is welcome to listen to them too, of course: though a contribution would be most welcome!

You can find the Bite-size Calm gong baths on their own page right here on the Sarasa Sound website, and also on their own sub-channel on Youtube: bit.ly/bitesizecalm. For now there are just two up there, but I will be adding more over the next few days, and regularly after that - so keep checking back!

It would be so great if you could take a moment now to share this page with any NHS and other frontline workers that you know. Or share the link on your social media channels. <3 Thank you! <3

Online gong baths: update

First of all, sending a big virtual hug to everybody struggling with lockdown/easing lockdown! One thing’s for sure: this is not an easy time for anyone.

I’ve settled into a routine of recording and uploading a gong bath every Sunday, and it’s usually available online around 7-8pm, technology permitting. These online gong baths can be found on Youtube and Soundcloud, search for “Sarasa Sound”. They are freely available for everyone, at any time. Each week I have a different focus or intention in mind, so for example you can find a gong bath for stress/anxiety, one for dealing with grief, another for bedtime, and so on.

Recording a gong bath in my home studio

If you haven’t yet checked out the online gong baths, here are a few recent comments from people that might inspire you to check them out:

“Browsing on Instagram the last week something in your post called to me. That night I carved out a space and gave it a go, listening to the one on anxiety. One of the impacts of lockdown is that I’m not sleeping well and I had the best night’s sleep afterwards. It really was the music of the spheres, incredibly powerful. I was also in pain at the time and it greatly helped. Then again I listened last night, and again you worked your magic.”

“Thank you so much, they have been amazing and I've seen amazing energy shifts after doing them! “

“It’s a pleasure to leave a contribution, as I finished your sound bath I felt fantastic and and there was no way I wasn’t going to leave something as a way of a thank you. With everything going on in the world we all need to appreciate and look after each other and your sound bath has done wonders for me it’s totally lifted my spirits and I will continue to contribute every time I do one.”

If you enjoy and benefit from my online gong baths, please make a contribution if you possibly can. If you enjoy and benefit from them regularly, then please make a monthly contribution if you can. Your contribution will enable me to continue to offer my gong baths freely for anyone who needs them, not behind a paywall. Your contribution will also help me finish developing an exciting new online resource, hopefully launching very soon! Watch this space…

To contribute, please click on here, then you can make a payment by Paypal, debit card or credit card:

Thank you so much! And do let me know how you get on…

Friends of Sarasa Sound asking to support the online gong baths! <3 <3 <3

I’m so touched and heartened by people’s responses to the online gong bath I’ve already uploaded. Comments include:

“Thank you Cathy. This helped me get to sleep Felt a lot lighter and calmer after listening.”

“Fantastic! I listened to it with headphones on - very powerful. Heartfelt thanks.”

“Thank you, Cathy, it been a very stressful few days and I've needed something like this to come home. I can't thank you enough.”

“Thank you for creating and sharing this, it worked well and later I slept like a baby.”

Plus a few people have been in touch asking about paying for the online sessions, or making a contribution. While I definitely don’t want my sessions behind a paywall, I would greatly appreciate any contributions people feel they want to make - stopping my physical gong baths mean I have no paid work for the time being.

I’ve put a “Donate” button at the bottom of this post, if you’d like to support the online gong baths.

I haven’t had a chance to think about “crowdfunding perks” or thank you gifts yet, but I look forward to thinking of some! Ideas welcome - let me know!

But one thing’s for sure, anyone who is able to support the provision of these freely available online gong baths gets my undying thanks! And whether or not you are able to make a financial contribution, I hope you will regularly find the time to enjoy the online sessions over the difficult weeks to come.

Responsible gong baths in a time of Coronavirus: please read!

UPDATE SATURDAY 14 MARCH

Unfortunately, following further developments over the last 36 hours, I have taken the sad decision to stop offering my group gong baths for the next few weeks.

Anyone who’s booked a place will receive a full refund, including refund of any Eventbrite fees paid.

My 1-to-1 sessions in my home studio continue for now.

I am exploring the possibility of offering online gong baths, as research from British Academy of Sound Therapy has shown that, while the sound and vibrational quality of recorded gong baths are of course not the same as live sessions, there are still therapeutic benefits..

Please keep an eye on this website, and/or Sarasa Sound Facebook, for further updates.

Please take care of yourself, and also please look out for vulnerable or elderly friends and neighbours. This is a very good opportunity to practice kindness and compassion, towards ourselves and others. We are all in this together. Cathy x

Summer break

Like every year, Sarasa Sound will be taking a break over the summer, for a bit of rest, restoration and regeneration.

It’s been a wonderful year for Sarasa Sound, with so many lovely gong bath and sound bath sessions happening, carrying on with my regular sessions and also going into new locations and spaces. And in the process meeting and getting to know so many wonderful people.

I’ll be mostly here in London, spending my time making music with friends as part of an Indonesian “keroncong” music project, so bringing the spirit, sounds and culture of Indonesia to us here in the UK.

But first I have to get through this coming week, which is my first court trial for my actions with Extinction Rebellion (my second, much bigger, trial, for my DLR action, will be in the Crown Court in December - more on that on the crowd justice website. I will be in Hendon Magistrates Court on Wednesday and Thursday, defending my actions super-gluing myself to the International Petroleum Week conference in London in February, along with 8 other people. We believe what we did was lawful, proportionate and in fact necessary, as oil companies are among the biggest carbon emitters globally, and the conference agenda was about exploring and extracting even more fossil fuels in the future, when these companies have already, shockingly, got enough planned to burn up the planet and destroy our children’s lives and future generations several times over. Please keep me & my co-defendents in your thoughts and prayers for this coming Wednesday and Thursday.

Thank you to everyone who’s attended my sessions, have a great rest of the summer, and look forward to seeing you in the Autumn! Much love, Cathy
